This is Frankie, my Boxer. He just turned 1 on July 20th, so he’s still very much a puppy. I got him at 11 weeks old, and he was such a terrified little guy. Every noise, person, and new thing made him cower and hide. He has come a very long way. He used to not be able to be in the same room as someone he didn’t know, but now he just keeps his distance for 15 to 20 minutes before slowly going up to them and testing the waters. He is so sweet and full of love, he just has to feel like he can express that. Once he does, you’re his best friend for life. I know that’s not the most ideal behavior for a dog, but he’s gaining courage every day and I am really proud of him!
If you’re not familiar with Boxers, they are really goofy dogs. They all curl their bodies and wiggle their butts when they get excited. Mine also hops like a bunny. When he sees the people he loves, you’d think they were gone for 6 months and it was their reunion. If you ever feel down, make friends with my dog and come back the next day, he’ll make you feel like the most important person in the world.
It always makes me laugh to think about how I used to dislike Boxers. I had only ever met one who behaved obnoxiously, and her underbite was to the point that her teeth always stuck out so I didn’t like how she looked either. One of my friends has always had them, and his current dog won my love the very first time I met him. I did a lot of dog-sitting for him and really bonded with his dog. He made me want to get a Boxer, and I don’t regret my choice at all. This breed has definitely won me over 🙂
